Interaction of Lewis number and heat loss effects for a laminar premixed flame propagating in a channel

چکیده
A thermo-diffusive model has been used to investigate the interaction of non-unity Lewis number and heat loss for laminar premixed flames propagating in a channel. A coordinate system moving with the flame has been used to immobilize the flame within the computational domain. At Lewis numbers significantly below unity in presence of high heat loss, tip opening near the centerline and dead space near the wall are simultaneously observed, that gives rise to a multicellular flame with “funnel-like” shape. At low Lewis numbers for fluid flow opposing the flame motion, increase in heat loss leads to a transition from inverted “mushroom” to “funnel-shaped” flame. The heat loss has a stronger effect for fluid flows opposing the flame motion than for fluid flows aiding the flame motion. For Lewis numbers above unity, the dependence of reaction rate on Lewis number gets reversed as heat loss increases from zero to a finite value. © 2007 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.

Effects of heat and momentum losses on the stability of premixed flames in a narrow channel
To understand fundamental characteristics of combustion in a small-scale device, the effects of the momentum and heat loss on the stability of laminar premixed flames in a narrow channel are investigated by two-dimensional high-fidelity numerical simulations. A general finding is that momentum loss promotes the Saffman–Taylor (S–T) instability, which is additive to the Darrieus–Landau (D–L) ins...

The study of premixed laminar flames is a central question in combustion theory. Here the differential equations describing steady flame propagation are investigated mathematically. The emphasis is on analytic results, hence a simple model, a onestep exothermic reaction with linear or radiative heat loss is studied. The equations governing our model can be considered as travelling wave equation...

An experimental and numerical study was performed on the interaction of combustible solid particles with atmospheric, strained, laminar premixed methane/air and propane/air flames in normal gravity. The study was conducted in the opposed-jet configuration in which a single flame was stabilized below the gas stagnation plane by counterflowing a mixture against an air jet. Into the flame were see...

A numerical shooting method for performing linear stability analyses of travelling waves is described and applied to the problem of freely propagating planar premixed flames. Previous linear stability analyses of premixed flames either employ high activation temperature asymptotics or have been performed numerically with finite activation temperature, but either for unit Lewis numbers (which ig...

Due to the increasing need for a more realistic analysis of flame, in this study, the premixed counter flow flames propagation in the uniform mixture of organic porous particles and air is studied. Because of size equality assumption of the porous particles, lycopodium particles at this research are assumed. This analysis framework is thermal-diffusion model with this assumption that the lewis...
